How to Start a Business with No Money and Find Success
Can you start a business with no money? Absolutely! Will you? Well, thats up to you! Let me tell you a short story. My wife and I, started our first online business about 13 years ago. And, we had no idea how we were going to do it — but we knew we would.
Transparently, it has not been easy but, has been absolutely worth it. Now, there are a few key things you want to consider when you are starting your business and that’s what today’s post is all about. So, let’s go ahead a dive in.
Define WHY you’re going to start a business!
Money is often the main reason for people, but don’t let it just be about money! For us, we wanted to grow a family and, we wanted to be the ones raising our kids. Not that we have anything wrong with daycares or other care givers, it was just the most important thing for us, was to be home.
And I’m sure you’ve heard it all before, start with why, right? Truth? If you are clear with why you are doing something and where it will take you, success will find you. It helps keep you focused on the rougher days, knowing your why pushes you to limits you may not otherwise reach for and, it helps keep you grounded.
Define your INTEREST!
Think about the things you love to do. In the video above I share a few examples on things like;
- candle making
- teaching swimming lessons
- coaching in health and wellness
… as a few examples. Once you have clearly defined what those interests are, we can help you create a business around them. The most important part is being explicit on the things you love to do (even on the uglier days!).
What are those interests for you? (feel free to let me know in the comment section!)
Choose your Path and/or your Vehicle
The next step in how to start a business with no money is deciding based on your interest, what will you create? Will you have a tangible product or, are you leaning on the service industry? We call this a path or vehicle because it’s this product or service that will help take you to your ‘why’.
The products and services are not your destination.
Instead, your goals and ambitions are. Choosing your vehicle wisely and with clear definition is important if not critical.
A mentor is someone you can look up to. It is a person who guides you and helps you in making well informed decisions. Mentorship means that someone takes you under their wing to teach you how to fly…so to speak. Why wouldn’t you want to work with and be around people who have gone before you? It is among one of the best ways to shorten your learning curve and hopefully, reach your destination sooner.
“One of the greatest values of mentors is the ability to see ahead what others cannot see and to help them navigate a course to their destination.” — John C. Maxwell
