4 Reasons People aren’t Joining your Network Marketing Business
Are you ever left feeling like why isn’t everyone you show your opportunity to, isn’t as excited as you? After all, you are thrilled to have opened our home based business, everyone else should be, right? Wrong. In fact, there are a variety of reasons people aren’t joining your network marketing business. And, some of those reasons matter and others do not. Because here’s what we do know …
You can’t say the wrong thing to the right person. And, you can’t say the right thing to the wrong person.
For the purposes of this post, what we will elaborate on are the common mistakes network marketers make. And it is often these mistakes that cause people to run the other way! We like to focus on the things we can control, right? So, as far as convincing people or tricking them into a opportunity call – you won’t find that here.
What you will find however, are ways to stop creating your own obstacles in the recruiting process or prospecting phases. The goal is for people joining you, not avoiding you (or worse, ‘working for’ you).
4 Reasons People aren’t Joining your Business
#1 You are spending way too much time talking about yourself.
Are you familiar with the saying the one who talks most is the one who will spend the most? This is one of the oldest tricks of the trade when it comes to sales of any kind. Whether you be sitting with your insurance agent, or looking to purchase a new sofa; the ending is always the same.
If the sales person is the only doing all the talking – you feel sold right? You may even feel pressure to buy something so you either do one of two things; impulse buy or abort mission. And, you will probably agree with us that neither are in your favor.
Listen More. Talk Less.
Whether you are prospecting a new customer or distributor the same rule applies. If you get better at asking open ended questions and then stepping back to be an active listener your prospects will tell you everything you need to know. Remember this is a relationship business … put that first.
#2 You’re not talking to enough people.
We all know at least one person who quit network marketing after not seeing results within a month, right? Most people are uncomfortable with rejection. It can be hard for them to keep pushing forward when they’ve been told ‘no’, over and over.
In the beginning, you may only have 1 out of 100 people convert into customers or distributors. That means you’re rejected 99 times. Now, with social media in play, these rejections aren’t so obvious as having a door shut in your face. And yet, they lack of results is still discouraging to so many people.
Learn how to accept the fact that not everyone you talk to will buy your product or end up joining you. Even the best network marketers need to talk to a lot of people, constantly. With their skills and expertise, they may have higher success rates than those brand new, but that doesn’t mean they don’t experience rejection too.
They’ve just realized it comes with not only business but life in general.
And the faster you move on and away from the no’s, the sooner you will find a ‘yes’.
#3 Your follow up strategy needs work
We hope by now, you have and continue to work on nailing curiosity posts and gaining attention through attraction marketing. And that, is great! However, then what? You’ve attracted them, they’ve reached to you … perhaps you have shared some conversation and because they didn’t whip out their card to buy immediately you let them slip to the back burner.
And this happens even when we know that it can take up to 7 exposures before someone buys.
We give up on them before they give up on us. A friendly follow up is always key to having people joining your business. But, it also needs a plan. Don’t be that networker who only reaches out the last day of the month or when you are trying to hit a rank. Pick a day or two a week, every week and use that as your follow up day. That way, you are consistently connecting with people and building that relationship. Sometimes people just needed a little nudge, other times it is just good practice at being a kind human being.
#4 You’re not meeting people where they are.
Unfortunately, we see this too often. Even network marketers with the greatest intentions get hung up on this one. You set out to recruit a new distributor, right? So you are sorting people, connections are happening consistently and still no one is interested in joining you. Additionally, you may have missed a number of customers along the way too because you weren’t listening.
Or, someone wants to be joining your business to earn a few hundred dollars to send their son to hockey in the winter but you keep going on about the hundreds of thousands you can earn. Guess what? This is scary to people who have never earned that kind of income.
You need to meet your prospects where they’re at. This is about them remember? Not you!
